  • Sheila's Bar, ehnriko (guest) wrote 17 years ago:
Shielas Bar is one of the most popular bars in PN during the American times up to the mid 90's. Mommy Luz - the owner has a reputation of being very strict with her bar girls. She also had the reputation of having the most young and most beautiful bar girls in the area during those times. The place is also named after her youngest daughter Shiela. Shiela's bar or whats left of it is not like it was before anymore. The size and sizzle has been reduced to more than 50%. Much of the los can be attributed to the declining prosperity of the locals as well as the weakening purchasing power of the Naval peso.

Dra. Olivia Salamanca Hospital, a provincial hospital which functions more as a City Hospital catering the needs of all local residents specially the less privileged. This hospital is managed by the Good hearted gentleman Dr.Abe Icasiano; This hospital is also the recipient of many Good Dutch Relief and Aid specially from the Joanna Foundation, a Dutch non-profit organization dedicated to help and sponsor children studying in Garita Elementary School as well as Donate Hospital Equipments to the Dra. Salamanca Hospital. If one is in need of good medical attention, it is safe to be in this Hospital due to the 1st world equipment you will find here. In front of this hospital is a small drugstore owned by Mang Remy... Waiting areas are a plenty outside... small sari sari stores and refreshment bars are available to cater the hungry and the thirsty. However, this hospital is in continues need of antiseptic and cleaning liquids... to clean the toilets, floors and other facilities. Donations are very much WELCOME! please get in touch with Dr. Abe Icasiano... tell him you got his contact information from one of the many person whom he once saved the life of.

This is a landmark of the old gates of Porta Vaga. THe scale replica built on this road island is the best representation of the old spanish stronghold... Porta Vaga. Porta Vaga is a walled city comparable to the Intramurus or Fort Santiago in Manila. There was word going around that the National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal based his novel "Noli Me Tangere" in the life of this old city during the Snanish Era. Within the area occupied by Porta Vaga; nine (9) Catholic Churches were built; the remains of one of them can still be seen standing near the house of the present mayor of the city... the old belfry of Sta. Monica. a.k.a. Simborio. Obviously, much of the City's history is apparently lost in the consciousness of the modern city dwellers. Much can be blamed to misplaced city priorities... Too much politics and too little emphasis placed on the importance of education and cultural identity. The best cultural walking dictionary or encyclopedia who is still alive today would be Tita Puring Ballesteros. Another reliable resource would be Catholic Priest Virgilio Mendoza.

The proper description would be... Naval Golf Driving Range... I used to drive there.
  • Naval Base Cavite Golf Course, ehnriko (guest) wrote 17 years ago:
This is only a Driving Range... not a Golf Course. Fort San Felipe a.k.a. is an old Spanish stronghold, which was later on converted as a Philippine Naval Base a.k.a. Fort San Felipe. You can locate the Ferry Docking Stations here at the Officers Club or what used to be the O.C., near the Officers Tennis Courts and the Chapel and the Hospital. During the time of the American occupation, this was one of the major hi-lights of this City - particularly during 1963 where Cavite City was one of the richest city in Asia. Nowadays, under the Philippine management... the old nostalgic glory can still be felt inside the base... but you will also see the obvious signs of neglect spread all over the area. It's a pity it is still a military base... it could have been a perfect tourist destination... it is the perfect war museum material as a matter of fact.
